Native apps would definitely help with growth, no doubt about that. But it's worth remembering YNAB took a similar path — they started as standalone desktop software back in 2004, and only launched their web/SaaS version (nYNAB) at the end of 2015. The full modern mobile suite came in 2016, on top of an already substantial user base built up over a decade on desktop. For ZeroSum right now, I'm not quite at the point where the cost and ongoing maintenance of native apps across platforms is justifiable. It's on the roadmap for sure, but there are other things I need to prioritise first to get there. Really appreciate the patience in the meantime 🖤
I would really love this. I find that I’m most likely to enter a transaction right as it’s happening, and that’s usually when I’m out and about. The PWA is great, don’t get me wrong, but having a native app (maybe even some widgets!) would be awesome.
Totally get it John. Tried to make the PWA/Mobile version of the website as responsive and good experience as possible. Native apps will come eventually, that's for sure. I just can't say it's something that will come soon, as I need enough users to justify that, and there are other things I need to do/build first :)
No worries! Working in fintech myself, I totally understand the need for a user base to justify this one. Thank you for the quick comment! I'll go beat the drum to get more users 😉
That is much appreciated for sure! 🖤
Nice to have for me, rather than a necessity since saving to home screen works well. However, it would undoubtedly be a smoother and more native experience. Not being a developer I know very little but I am just concerned about the maintenance burden and cost, over multiple platforms.
Actually the standalone app will draw most of the users you want. I came to know about YNAB on the android play store and not through their web app.
